The Inside Exile documentary follows Kathleen Neal Cleaver, revolutionary icon and former Communications Secretary of the Black Panther Party, as she publishes her personal archive of over 2000 photos, scrapbooks and letters. As she prepares to share her collection and the visual truth it reveals with the world, Cleaver reflects on her childhood in the Jim Crow South, passionate marriage to fellow Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver, and concerns as a daughter, mother and grandmother. While challenging misconceptions about women in the Black Panther Party and broader stereotypes about African American families, this film illuminates how love, forgiveness and self-expression have been vital to the struggle for racial equality. Produced/directed by Dr. Robin J. Hayes, the documentary is currently in development.
